Speakers

OUR SPEAKERS

Keynote Speaker

WORLD PARKINSON’S PROGRAM

JOHN BAUMANN, CHAIR PATIENT’S MENTOR-SHIP COMMITTEE

John transforms audiences with his positive outlook on life despite John being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2002 when he was 41 years old. His purpose is to help as many people affected by Parkinson’s or any other condition to discover the benefits of being positive and provides “tangible takeaways” to not only patients, but also to caregivers and health care professionals. John truly “embraces” his condition.

John exemplifies the word “resilience” starting out as an attorney, then, after getting the news that he has Parkinson’s, continuing to practice for ten more years while getting prepared to fulfill his lifelong dream of teaching at a University, writing a book on success, and finding his life’s purpose as an inspirational speaker.

JEREMY MCLELLAN,

Jeremy has also won the 2015 and 2016 Charleston Stand-Up Comedy Competition and was named Best Local Comic in the Charleston City Paper. With more than 430,000 followers on Facebook, his brand of liberal, sharp, topical, and sometimes twisted humor has found him playing to clubs, festivals and conferences around the world. MESSAGE

ORGANIZATION MESSAGE

Did you know…

  • As many as 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease (PD), which is more than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease.
  • Approximately 60,000 North Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease each year, and this number does not reflect the thousands of cases that go undetected.
  • Incidence of Parkinson’s increases with age, but an estimated four percent of people with PD are diagnosed before the age of 50.
  • Men are one and a half times more likely to have Parkinson's than women.
